Running stop signs near Ridley Middle School.

Just want to bring this safety issue to the attention of parents that there are people running the stop signs. They aren't driving slow either, doing 25mph or better. RPPD is aware of this. Also PSP have been notified about this.

I noticed this problem when I moved here eleven years ago.  Then Council President  Joe Yorke asked PennDot to monitor the situation, but the best they could offer were the words "STOP" painted in the street and warning signs stating that "Complete stops are FREE...." For the first few years I yelled at every ass**** who ignored the stop sign in front of my house, only to be met with middle-fingers and threats. I have never seen a single driver being issued a citation. Perhaps it will take the death of a child before something is done.

@JenniferTorpey The camera would need to be placed by a parent or other interested Ridley Parker. Maybe a GoPro at a house on the corner that could capture all the traffic at that time of day. And as I said, if not a camera, perhaps a parent watching with their camera and taking down license plate numbers as well as documenting the violation.

@MaryBergin I have never seen a camera at a stop sign, only at red lights. PA red light enforcement camera is only installed in first class cities.

I don't know if this would be feasible, but if cameras were placed at the busiest stop signs, or just one sign, that would capture the cars and their plate numbers. Or perhaps, someone could watch the signs at the busiest time of day and take down license plate numbers. This issue should be taken very seriously as someone is likely to be injured or killed with this behavior. It could even be a child crossing the street who believes he's safe because of the stop sign.

Tim, yes the mayor made a statement like this. I also think it was published in the Ridley News.

Do you remember which elected official said that the Borough doesn't enforce this because the Borough doesn't make enough "profit" by prosecuting moving violations such as running stop signs?

Wouldn't surprise me if some of the speeders/stop sign runners are parents who have just left their kids at school, so they don't give a royal damn about anything except getting to their job as fast as possible.
