Ridley Park claims pooch pile-on and billing errors

At the March Borough Council meeting Councilman Jared Brennan said he has received telephone calls and e-mails from the Delaware County Animal Control about unpaid bills totaling $9,500.

“It’s to the point where they are talking about legal action,” Brennan said.

Berger said the borough was being charged for animals that are not from Ridley Park and until the mix-up is resolved, the bills will not be paid.

He said there were instances where the borough was billed for animals picked up in other municipalities, and there were billing errors.  “We are not going to be strong armed or threatened,” Berger said.

Borough Manager Dawn Marie Human said the matter has been settled with the animal agency settling for one-half of the billed charges. She cited one instance where the borough was billed for an animal that was picked up in Darby Borough.

Thank-you Councilman Jared Brennan for giving the residents of Ridley Park this information about what is really going on with the spending of our tax dollars from we the taxpayers of Ridley Park.  Once again we are seeing more 'TRANSPARENCY' in the borough.

Its a Dog-Gone Shame Berger is barking up the wrong tree again, several important areas have

been :hind-legged by the current councilman Berger. Jared Brennan appears to have the correct

approach, deduct the questionable,  don't waste taxpayers monies on attorney fees.

My opinion is that Bob and Dawn are walking down the wrong side of the "doggy street" on this issue.  If you owe the electric company money and you were overbilled for a few extra kilowatts, would you stop paying your bills for three months?  I don't think that this is the proper way to rectify a serious situation.  Sending emails to the three groups who pick up strays for the borough and telling them fix our bills or we are not paying you, is a foolish approach.  How about deducting the erroneous number of animals billed to Ridley Park, and paying what is owed.  The bill is for $9500.00 and we are only paying them $6000.00 and telling them, three or less errors made constitutes not paying the bill for three months?  Also, this approach now has the three groups not accepting stray cats at all from Ridley Park.   The dogs will continue to be accepted, but the Borough is telling them our attorney is going to get involved?  This is un-necessary and can easily be fixed by sitting down and going over the bills with the three groups who we have outstanding past due balances with.   If this goes legal and we are forced to litigate, we are going to incur legal costs.  Also, I believe another town took this approach and ended up paying their own solicitors bills AND the legal bills for the groups that were being litigated.  Sounds to me like Bob Berger is strong arming the groups for a few errors on bills.  The $ 9500 bill is only for one of the three groups.  Dawn told one of the groups that a $ 600.00 check was mailed, but to date nothing has been received and no cancelled check has been presented.   I made it clear at the March Council meeting that I am not in agreement with the Borough's position, make that Bob and Dawn's position.
