There were many events in 2013 that effected me indirectly; super typhoon Haiyan leveling the Philippines, the US government shutdown, the bankruptcy of Detroit, the Boston Marathon bombing, and the death of Nelson Mandela. And there were personal events in 2013 that I'll always be able to remember, that I'll never be able to forget, that someday I won't always be able to assign to a year.

My influential event was witnessing my friend for forty years and his wife fight bladder cancer.  He recovered in their living room in a hospital bed with tubes and drains and around the clock schedules for everything.  His wife stopped working, she lived and slept at the hospital for a solid month, then she cared for him, nursed him, nagged him and pushed him to health in their living room for five long months.  They are able to see 2014 together and I am thankful for my friend's recovery in 2013 and I am grateful I could witness the powerful action of love.

2013 was a very good year. Our best wishes for a Happy New Year and good health to you, your family, and friends in 2014.

The thing that affected my life most (and his life too) is my brother was having episodes where he couldn't figure out what he was doing.  He would go to work, then just sit there staring at the wall all day.  He was in several hospitals, finally at the VA hospital in Coatesville he was diagnosed with "Dementia of the Alzheimer's type".  He was in Wallingford Nursing home, then I got him into Fair Acres, he moved there Dec 9.  He is ONLY 65!!! What a shock to all of us.

And the same to you Howard and your family. Happy New Year and may it be a Blessed and Healthy one. I hope in 2014 our borough will get better, Hetzel Park people win their law suit, and no more tax increases. To everyone on RPOL, Happy New Year !!!
