Ridley Park Council said good-by to retiring police chief Tom Byrne at Tuesday night's meeting and appointed veteran police officer Mark Bascelli as acting chief, effective Friday. Byrne has been chief for 10 years and is a member of the police force since 1988, Delco Times Correspondent Barbara Ormbsy reports.

Council also moved Steve Corsi of Ridley Park from part-time police status to full-time police officer. He is the son of Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division investigator Paul Corsi.

Hired as part-time officers were Michael Murphy of Haverford and Tom Byrne Jr. of Tinicum. Murphy is new to the law enforcement field while Byrne, son of the retiring chief, worked as a part-time officer in Eddystone. He was recently named captain of the Boeing Co. Fire Department.
