Ridley Park's Online Digital Community

Her obituary says she founded the Ridley Park Shade Tree Commission. If there's time to organize this, she should be commemorated this Saturday at the Arbor Day observation.

@Linda Shockley, Sad to hear about Elizabeth Tompers; I'll remember her in my prayers. Betty did a lot to beautify Ridley Park with her great vision.  Actually her tree planting efforts predated the foundation of the Shade Tree Commission in 1992.  Too bad most of the current members don't know anything about her legacy, diligence and dedication.  They could learn a thing or two about Community Service.

I remember Betty's energy and no nonsense feistiness.  Many times she said all she wanted to do was plant 12 trees a year to help keep RP green for the future.  Betty formed her own Tree Committee and went about beautifying the Town. Unfortunately no longer standing in front of Borough Hall is the lovely flowering Franklinia Tree Betty Tompers took pains to acquire and plant. Too bad we couldn't take care of it.  Perhaps a replacement tree planted in honor of Elizabeth Tompers would do her memory justice.
