Christmas Tree Recycling, a win-win proposition

In the continuing effort to go green, Ridley Park Borough begins recycling used Christmas trees from the curbside throughout the 2 week period after Christmas. This is another win-win proposition from new Council President Bob Bergen (Mr Recycle). The weight of the collected trees becomes part of our annual recycling report and their weight is removed for our regular trash stream. What's great about this is the borough makes money from recycling and pays out money for trash removal - this turns our used trees into income; a win-win for everyone.

On NON TRASH DAYS, The Ridley Park Highway Department will patrol our streets for trees at the curbside. Christmas Trees must be free of tinsel, lights and decorations. Your tree's like cash so keep it from the trash.

On TRASH DAYS, trees with tinsel and decoration should be mixed with your regular trash. This does not contribute to our recycling effort and will add weight to our regular trash bill. Tree's in the trash can't be turned into cash.

From Monday, Dec 28 through Wednesday, January 13 Christmas trees free of tinsel, lights and decorations will also be accepted at our highway garage on Ridley Ave.

Great news. Yes, saw the new cans in town. Glad to hear that the new cans will be in the parks in time for baseball season. It will help with the use of all the plastic water bottles. :)

Alison,
The Borough purchased new recycling cans/waste cans for the Ridley Park Business district 2 months ago( did you see them). This was part of the County funded Ridley Park downtown revitalization. The clear plan is to take the old cans from the Business district and turn them into recycling units for the Lake area and recreational parks with-in the Ridley Park borough. Look for them in place by April for the start of Spring 2010.
I am also working on a Grant/donation with Citizen Bank on there Green Program for other Ridley Park Recycling ideas. Over the privies 2 years, ideas were bantered around but money was never allocated. So the strategy/plan needed to gain legs. I am 100% committed to raising recycling and environmental awareness with-in Ridley Park. Together we can make a difference.

Thank you,

Bob Berger

Council President Bob Bergen (Mr Recycle),
When are we going to get recycle waste cans in the park areas? I remember you mentioning the idea in 2008 and then again in 2009, hopefully they will come in 2010. Sincerely, AF (recycler) p.s. love the idea of the recycle trees.
