Bringing People into the Borough!

We need to keep shops in business in the borough.  Delaware County isn't necessarily a walking community, but RP can be different.  We need to support the shoppes and encourage new business.  There are several vacant store fronts.  The Black Salt Cafe and Steak-Ums has closed.  (Some said it had the best cheese steaks!)

These closures don't help the other shoppes.  We need pedestrian traffic.  What can we do?  We have a great footprint in the borough, a great train stop, let's encourage a new coffee shop, luncheon shop, etc to come to RP.

We have to a Phase 2 posting.  Keep caring about our borough!

Thanks to all who have been involved.  We raised the awareness of the importance of supporting our borough.  Things are continuing.  Keep posting.

Very well stated Kevin. I do not appreciate people talking like that. This is and has been a great town, and I for one is going to make sure it stays that way.

I was in Narberth, PA this past weekend and they appear to have a thriving atmosphere in their downtown business district.  It was bright, colorful with advertisement on the streets, pedestrian walk ways and a small town feel...you wanted to drive slow to take it all in.

Their slogan is "One-stop shopping on the mainline" and it was overall inviting to be there for our Saturday afternoon.  It was the collection of shops that made walking around town a fun experience.  Excuse any rivalry, but it like the shops of Wayne without Bryn Mawn; variery and a slower pace.

Ridley Park too has a small, walkable business district but the feeling and atmosphere is different from Narberth's and Bryn Mawr's. Nonetheless we have atmosphere but I'm not sure of the category it would fall under. With several bars and hair salons and a pizza place; there has to be a slogan there somewhere :-)

Would be interested in the RECON you did.  I am not looking to start a business, just to find out how to keep those in town going, and also ways to encourage businesses to come to RP.    Could we meet one night or afternoon at library, and brainstorm ideas?

The idea of free advertising in the Ridley News, a write up highlighting 1 business each issue, bringing attention to Delaware County newspapers.

I appreciate the comments from Sandy and Jml.  I think they are on to something here with their ideas for other businessses. I apologize if I misunderstood the Media Reference.  Glad we all agree we can't be Media.  I'm not sure who to approach with these ideas.  I don't necessarily think  borough council is the first resource.  These properties are owned by private business  persons.  I think  one should find out who owns them and  ask questions about what they think  about our ideas.  Once they are on board with something   maybe the bourough can provide some kind of support.  Bringing the owners to the table may help us understand the problems.   The borough  council may be able to help with owners names.

Some peole have misunderstood my comment about Media. If you reread what I said which was we can't and shouldn't be like Media. We have no place in town where we could dine out under the stars.

What we need as I stated a few months ago, a 5&10, or a dollar store, have a thrift store where people can donate all the old or new stuff, and sell it for a profit. Have a place where on anyday whether it be hot or cold out you could go in for a warm cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocalate. Summer get a cool drink. Sell newspapers and magazines there plus other things. You have the people coming and going from the train. You also have people who are out for a walk who would be glad to either get warm on a cold day or cool on a warm day. It could be a nice convenient store. So again for the record I didn't say we should have another Media. Just the opposite.
