In a surprising move (to me, anyway) the man who shot Officer Marc Hanly was found not guilty of every charge except "recklessly endangering a civilian".

Billboards again

Whoever owns the billboard that's right next to the Ron Wise Auto Body place just put up a new billboard, higher than the old one  had been and also appears to be LED-lit. And it faces Ridley Park. I and my neighbors will see this one all the time; it's also higher than the trees. I see it now so when it's lit I'll probably be able to read it.

Elizabeth Tompers died

Her obituary says she founded the Ridley Park Shade Tree Commission. If there's time to organize this, she should be commemorated this Saturday at the Arbor Day observation.

Social Media called the cops on rowdy party?

A rowdy teen party in the 100 block of W Rogers that got out of hand. Police didn't know about it until something was posted on Instagram and Facebook.  Come on, couldn't anyone be bothered to call the cops? I'd like to hear an explanation on that one.  There were almost 100 people at the party.  Doesn't make any sense.  The party itself puts RP in a bad light, the neighbors not calling the cops doesn't help.

Pope's visit and state of emergency?

Levittown has just declared a state of emergency so they're prepared in case the pope's visit causes chaos.  I wonder if RP should do the same?  I'm picturing tons of people swarming the two train stations & causing all sorts of problems.  Has anything been said at council meetings?

foam on street/lake?

Thursday around 8:30PM I came down  W Ridley just pas the entrance to the middle school (forget the name of that street) toward the lake, there was white foam on the street. Then I saw more foam on the lake itself.  Does anyone know what was going on?

Merge Ridley Park Police & Fire with Ridley Township

I'm wondering if we'd be better off (especially in light of our COP problems) merging our police and fire with Ridley Township?  It seems like every time an emergency such as a fire happens, both departments respond anyway.  Would we save $ that way?  Also use their trash and recycling collection?

This blog can either be totally ignored as being so far off the wall it isn't funny, or create a firestorm, just please be gentle in your response.

snow removal from your car

Everyone, when you clean off your car remember to clean the roof. It's the law. Leaving snow on the roof could create a danger for the driver/s behind you if it lets go & smashes into that car.

missing cat

I hope it's OK to post this here. I was taking care of a cat that's been living where I work. I took him home this weekend for safekeeping b/c the place I work was getting its driveways repaved so I thought he'd be safer at my house. I was keeping him on my enclosed front porch. Overnight, he bashed out the screen in my door and got away. I am heart broken, as I'm sure everyone… Continue

lights went out again on West Ridley!

How many of us groaned and said "Not again!" when the electricity went out at around 5:50 this evening? Came back 20 minutes later, which was just long enough for all 85 (according to PECO) households to start getting nervous!

Ridley Park's Police Chief on youth curfews

Police Chief Tom Byrnes is quoted quite extensively in the Daily Times today.  The article shows Ridley Park in a good light, too, with few problems from kids being out after curfew.  I just wonder if a 10:30 curfew during the week is too late, I'd like to see it being…

July 2nd car show?

Someone asked me if my brother Bill Zane would be bringing his Studebaker to the car show. Can anyone send me the info so I can forward it to him? He has made a note of the event in his calendar, so he will be here if he gets registered. Thanks.

helicopters in formation

Does anyone know who is flying helicopters over RP two or three at a time? They go west to east, then 1/2 hour or so later they're flying back, east to west. Several times a day. Not landing at Boeing. Just back & forth. They look vaguely military but then maybe just big commercial ones. I don't recognize the make. Not tandem rotor. Anyone know what's going on?

web site for ownership of properties

Is http://w01.co.delaware.pa.us/pa/publicaccess.asp. Click on the picture of a house in the upper right hand side of the square. You can get on there, look up any address & see who owns it, who sold it to them, the taxes, etc. Quite an interesting site. It's the deed books in Media online.

Bobby Moore had a nice send-off

Retired police officer Bobby Moore's funeral was yesterday. I was glad to see Ridley Park officers at the viewing and funeral. There was a police escort to the cemetery. What was especially moving was seeing the police of all the towns between Ridley Park and the cemetery in Marcus Hook (or in that vicinity) blocking intersections with their cars. That was a fine tribute to a man who deserved it. We'll all miss you Bobby.

Downtown Ridley Park Bank Robbery - Bomb Squad Called

Saw this on the CBS Channel 3's web site. I was supposed to be stopping at Costa's around this same time, but forgot. Now I'm glad I forgot. Must have been scary.

Bomb Squad Called After Delco. Bank Robbery

The Bomb Squad was called to the scene after reports of a bank robbery in Delaware County Wednesday morning.

Police said a suspect entered an M&T Bank on Hinkley Avenue in Ridley Park at about 9:30 a.m. and told the… Continue
