When the weather reports were apparent last Wednesday that Ridley Park was about to be hit by a storm carrying Hurricane force winds and possibly a foot of rain, I realized my family had a lot of work to do to get ourselves prepared for a natural disaster in Ridley Park. Unlike the earthquake Ridley Park experienced last week, the long advance of Hurricane Irene gave my…

KUDOS to all the Fire Fighters, Police and EMS personnel who responded to the accident last night on East Sellers Ave. I watched, in horror, as they cut away at the vehicle to free the driver inside. Their dedication to save human lives is incredible. Thank you to all who were on clean up too, it looks as if nothing happened at all. There truly are heroes in Ridley Park.

As of this morning (Monday) I cannot get through to the Ridley school district via (1) telephone, (2) email, or (3) website, which is down. Anybody know what's up? Thanks.

A morning drive around Ridley Park's four precincts this morning told the overnight story that Ridley Park was extremely lucky. Except for a few downed tree limbs and a blown over tree or two, Ridley Park pulled a lucky number out of the hat and escaped Hurricane Irene with only minor damages; all of the terrible damages everyone feared didn't appear to have happened in…

As mild bands of wind and rain from Hurricane Irene start soaking Ridley Park, here are a few remaining emergency preparations you can do tonight.
- Turn your refrigerator down and make it colder by a few degrees. If we loose power your food will stay cold longer.
- Store water for personal use, cooking and hygiene. Use jugs, pots and plastic zip-lock…

Is there a law that prohibits the paper thrown from vechiles onto my lawn? According to an article found in DELCO TIMES there is.
"Unwanted circulars thrown on private property by someone in a vehicle is a violation of the state motor vehicle code, according to Solicitor Guy Smith."
What does our solicitor say?

Police Chief Tom Byrnes is quoted quite extensively in the Daily Times today. The article shows Ridley Park in a good light, too, with few problems from kids being out after curfew. I just wonder if a 10:30 curfew during the week is too late, I'd like to see it being…

At the last minute I was reminded that the peak of the Perseid meteor shower was to be in the wee hours of Saturday (today). Husband and I set the alarm for 4:15 and were outside lying in our suburban back yard soon enough (it was chilly! we had to bundle up). Even in our light-polluted area we saw several in the 45 minutes we lay out, with the bonus of seeing the Space Station go overhead, and two fainter satellites.
It was peaceful. It was nice. Glad we did it.

According to Rutledge Solicitor Guy Smith, those advertising circulars we find on our sidewalks, lawn, bushes and porch are a violation of PA's motor vehicle code if they are thrown on your private property from a motor vehicle.
Smith got involved after Rutledge residents complained about those pesky advertisements that come stuffed in plastic bags.
