Speeders---Ridley Twp police cars

As reported in the Delco Times today, fast moving Ridley Twp police were involved in an accident on MacDade Blvd recently while responding to a call. A man is in ICU as a result. Twp police speed through Ridley Park on a fairly regular basis. Residents of Swarthmore Avenue can attest to this. Why is it that they are allowed to do this, when our own police don't do it? This is a busy street with a lot of pedestrian traffic, bikes, baby strollers, and cars turning onto and off of Swarthmore Ave.… Continue

Ridley Park gourd guys

My buddy Nod D. from Nevin Street and I are are gourd guys - we love growing gourd. Nod's been doing gourds for decades. He grows them all summer and hosts the annual "D" family's pumpkin and gourd decorating party in his barn.

He got me hooked on gourds about 6 years ago and every growing season we plant new ones and renew old relationships with unintented volunteers that seed themselves on their own.…

Radar gun entertainment

There's no denying the entertainment factor of the radar speed sign in front of our home. There's also no denying that it works to slow traffic down.

There were two car crashes in front of our house on Sellers Avenue two weeks ago; one was a head-on and the other was a hit and run that ended the life of my sister's sad-looking 2005 Rodeo.

I called Chief Byrne, at… Continue

Glad to see the first tomatoes are finally appearing!

It's been a long time coming (and mind you, I've been enjoying the cool summer), but I have to say I'm glad to have ripe tomatoes from my own garden at last. The super sweet cherries were first, and now the Jetstars have started to come in. I am waiting anxiously for the "Pineapple" variety to ripen, as I really enjoy the mellow flavor and color of this yellow fruit.

What's up in your garden?

Sestak throws hat into Senate Race

Popular first time Congressman Joe Sestak from Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District today announced he is running to opposed Senator Arlen Spector for Pennsylvania's US Senate seat.

One of Sestak's chief arguments is that when Specter changed parties from Republican to Democrat, he essentially jumped ship to save his own political hide - and to an admiral, jumping ship is akin to treason. Specter 79, who's has been a Republic for over 4… Continue
