Flower beds downtown - some cleanout

OK, my family and I did some 'guerilla gardening' this morning, and cleaned out the garden at the corner of E. Ridley and Ward. Three trashbags later we treated ourselves to Slurpies (for the kids) and an iced drink from the Cafe (for the adults).

Now who has the know-how about what could be planted in this shady spot? Who might be willing to buy and spread some mulch?

And here's a warning: despite there being no signage about this, we found some cables in that garden… Continue

Borough Council hosts new chambers

Disappointingly, fewer than ten residents showed up for the first council meeting in the Borough's new chambers on the second floor or Borough Hall.

The seats are most comfortable and the new atmosphere is a great reason to visit a live council meeting.

June's council meeting is Tuesday, June 15 at 7… Continue

Library support meeting May 25???

Can anyone tell me if this meeting is still on? My information is for 6:30 at Park House Coffee, but I've heard no buzz on it at all other than the flyer I got at the FOL booksale in early May.

Whatcha got growin'?

This is the waiting part of the vegetable gardening year. I've had the flurry of seed-starting; transplanting and learning how to make newspaper pots for my seedlings; giving a bunch away to friends and coworkers; and ultimately planting into the ground.

Now it's the wait. Five tomato plants (of 3 varieties), snow peas, and basil need the warming sun and the nourishing rain to bring them what they need to produce what I am waiting for! I am soooo ready for a garden-fresh… Continue

We cleaned up the creek!

(our portion of it, anyway). I was pleased to join in Saturyday morning on the cleanup of our section of Little Crum Creek, and the lake. With waders (for some), gloves and black trashbags for all, we wandered by, waded along, and fell into the water to collect a large variety of things that didn't belong there.

Two whole shopping carts. A bar stool. A hooded sweatshirt. Miscellaneous metal pipes. A gym bag with a rock in it. And zillions of pieces of plastic, water bottles, and… Continue
