End of an Era

The end has finally come to the Grad Prix Car Wash just outside town. Years ago it was the most convenient place around these parts to wash your ride; now it's gone and it's made way for the site of a new super Wawa.

I remember heading to the Grand Prix with a roll of quarters and my pickup truck all covered in mud on a late Saturday afternoon in summer and…

A town's inspiration

Here’s how a town can be inspirational:

This poem entitled: Fading Bleu Ciel from the Fire Escape won Special Mentions in the April 2010 Poetry Contest in Writers’ Journal, w/ results posted in the Nov/Dec 2010 issue.

I wrote this while sitting on my fire escape on a summer evening in 2009, here in Ridley Park - when I lived…

Ridley Park OK's Parking Permits

For commuters tired of pumping 12 quarters into parking meters every day to park near the Crum Lynne and Ridley Park train stations, there is good news on the horizon.

At February's meeting Ridley Park Borough Council approved parking permits for both locations. Permits will now cost $60 a month, roughly the same as paying $3 a day, five days a week, said council member James Glenn.

Residents will be able to purchase permits in person at Borough Hall. The permits will only…

Don't look now, the Library has been yarn bombed!

Came past this morning and noticed a multitude of crocheted birds hanging on the tree at the RP Library.  Maybe spring isn't too far away after all!

Happy to see a new cafe will be opening

I'm happy to see that the Park House Coffee location won't be remaining closed much longer.  I stopped by yesterday to read the sign on the door, and met the owner... he said they do have a name chosen, but he's not giving it out yet!  The new place should be open by early March.

Upcoming events

Was wondering if we could have an event for the children and help raise money for different issues for community or maybe help a fundraiser raise money???

We don't seem to have too many things for the kids to do around Ridley Park or to look forward to.

Margarette "Mimi" Connor

Margarette "Mimi" Connor

My grandmother, who has lived in Ridley Park since 1951and still resides there, turned 96 years young February 2nd. My family lived on Barker Street until 1998. Mimi now lives alone in apartment at Stonewood Village. Wouldn't it be great if her secret for longevity was the Ridley Park…

Bill Walls

I want to say that everything that each of Bill's friends said about him that I totally agree.  Bill was the amazing embodiment of so many things good.  His passing is a great loss to our Park community as well  as the world.  Bill was very kind and respectful to other humans.  He was so able to interact with people in a meaningful way without overstepping hia boundaries.  A Class gentleman.  In so many  ways he was so helpful to me personally.   I will miss him greatly.

Ridley Park Borough-Snow removal

I have received mixed comments from many residents from different sections of Ridley Park.

Please help me as your councilman so we can do a better job.  I would like to get feedback from all the residents. Also I would like to read about the postives of this snow removal also.  Thank-you.

Groundhogs Day prediction for Ridley Park

Ridley Park's record snow fall of 82.5 inches in 2010 might be hard to top in 2011 - especially if winter comes to an end tomorrow.

According to the legend that began in southeastern Pennsylvania, on February 2 when the groundhog emerges from its burrow and it "sees its shadow," the groundhog…
