Yesterday morning when Ridley Parkers looked out their windows, one of the things on everybody's mind was "where's the snow?" A nor-easter had been predicted to slam-us overnight and by morning's light, the most snow we could see was a couple inch dusting and an eight or ten inch snow drift; a… Continue

Supporters for health care reform ended the first of an eight-day march from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C., Wednesday with a candlelight vigil at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.
Participants left the Mother Bethel AME Church in Philadelphia about noon and arrived at Taylor shortly after 6:30 p.m. The walk is in honor of Melanie Shouse, a health care reform advocate who died from breast cancer after her insurance company refused to pay for… Continue

During the thaw from a record breaking snowfall in Ridley Park, keep your eyes to the ground for the "damn ice," and start looking upwards for the "ice dams."
Ice dams are forming everywhere around Ridley Park right now, and their telltale signs are the beautiful icicles we see formed on the… Continue

If you're a gardener, you know the duality of Mother Nature's ways; hot opposite cold, light opposite dark and creation opposite destruction. With the beauty of her impressive winter storms this week, the heavy weight of her snow has been an unfolding tragedy for many of Ridley Park's evergreen trees, shrubs and bushes.
If we're counting the number of downed big limbs, then the loss of big evergreen limbs in ABC field would begin to count over… Continue

If you have a fire hydrant on your property or your neighbor does, please do the fire department and ultimately yourself, and dig out the hydrant. This highly unusual amount of snow makes access to hydrants difficult. When doing your digging out please do not bury the hydrants. Remember the hydrants are there to protect your homes and your lives, if we have dificulty in getting to a hydrant precious time is lost.

A driver had to obtain a backhoe to get the plow off so the truck could

We were just driving home this evening around 9, and as we passed the school parking lot the kids said "the dumpster's on fire!" - actually it was the newspaper recycle bin. We called it in and soon heard the sound of sirens. Hopefully there wasn't much damage; we didn't hang around in the snow to watch. At least it was against a brick wall.

As the snow began to fall, the wind was howling inside Borough Hall last night as Borough Council passed the 2010 budget and increased the taxes of Ridley Park residents. With a 5 to 2 vote, Council approved the 2010 budget that increases the per capita tax, raises the real estate tax, and passes along the County sewer tax that the County hands down to the Borough.
With the outside temperature in the upper 20's, the heat inside the Borough Hall was on high during the meeting. In a… Continue

There's a big snow storm predicted tomorrow and that means we'll have lots of opportunities for taking snow pictures and uploading them onto RidleyParkOnline. While a fresh snow fall produces an abundance of breathtaking backyard Ridley Park subjects, it's actually pretty tricky to take a good picture of snow. Besides the hazardous conditions for your equipment, the reflections off the bright snow can wash-out your pictures and you'll end up with gray snow instead of capturing the emotions of… Continue
