I received a flyer tucked behind my mailbox today from Carole Nasella. This flyer claims that Shawn Conran has a criminal record. I looked up his name on the Municipal Court page. All I found is a…Continue

No pedestrian crossing at W Ridley and Chester Pike?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Linda Shockley Sep 16, 2011. 4 Replies

Does anyone know why someone, I assume Penndot, wiped out the pedestrian crosswalk that used to go across W Ridley at Chester Pike? They also put signs for "No pedestrian crossing" the ones that have…Continue

Does Aqua give notice?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Linda Shockley Jan 27, 2011. 2 Replies

There are sections of Ridley Park that have been worked on by Aqua, replacing water pipes (I assume). I'd like to know how Aqua handled notifying residents that their section of street would be dug…Continue

missing cat

Posted on September 5, 2011 at 4:00pm 14 Comments

I hope it's OK to post this here. I was taking care of a cat that's been living where I work. I took him home this weekend for safekeeping b/c the place I work was getting its driveways repaved so I thought he'd be safer at my house. I was keeping him on my enclosed front porch. Overnight, he bashed out the screen in my door and got away. I am heart… Continue

lights went out again on West Ridley!

Posted on September 1, 2011 at 7:50pm 0 Comments

How many of us groaned and said "Not again!" when the electricity went out at around 5:50 this evening? Came back 20 minutes later, which was just long enough for all 85 (according to PECO) households to start getting nervous!

Ridley Park's Police Chief on youth curfews

Posted on August 16, 2011 at 7:00am 0 Comments

Police Chief Tom Byrnes is quoted quite extensively in the Daily Times today.  The article shows Ridley Park in a good light, too, with few problems from kids being out after curfew.  I just wonder if a 10:30 curfew during the week is too late, I'd like to see it being…

July 2nd car show?

Posted on May 22, 2011 at 10:07pm 1 Comment

Someone asked me if my brother Bill Zane would be bringing his Studebaker to the car show. Can anyone send me the info so I can forward it to him? He has made a note of the event in his calendar, so he will be here if he gets registered. Thanks.

Linda!
The message threads seem to be missing me. My "Louisiana-Style Pulled Pork Bar-B-Que" will stand up to anyone else. My experience has been that in competitions like this, there are no losers, just different tastes! The tasters are the winners.
I was raised in Indiana, but my paternal grandparents were pioneers in Louisiana (circa 1910). They lived near Laranger, LA. My Grandfather bought a .22 rifle to shoot the alligators who liked to crawl up under the house. This pleased my Grandmother who gave birth to my Dad in 1913. Somewhere I have a picture of him on the family mule. Grandfather put his "fortune" into a huge crop of green beans which were picked, packed and loaded onto a boxcar headed for Chicago and the markets there. Refrigeration didn't exist yet, so the entire crop ( and those of the other farmers) were packed with ice , an expensive commodity in the South at the time. Long story/short..the train was sidetracked en route, the ice melted, the vegetables rotted into worthless glops.
They moved back to Indiana, but not the entire family. I retained many wonderful cousins, aunts and uncles in the South: mainly in McComb and Magnolia, Mississippi. I once traveled to Laranger and saw the family's home in town. The culinary heritage transcended the physical homes, farms and geography. My pulled pork rules in my neighborhood. Bring it on! :)

HI Linda, All of the paints have been removed, they have been keeping the other items to sell when or if they do open up the store again. Remember my aunt is 90 years old!!! She hasn't given up on the hardware store.
