Started this discussion. Last reply by Linda Shockley Jul 17, 2014. 3 Replies

I've noticed that the new billboard, after all the sturm & drang over its installation, doesn't seem very effective.  The other day I watched it as we were approaching the exit for RP.  There…Continue

In a surprising move (to me, anyway) the man who shot Officer Marc Hanly was found not guilty of every charge except "recklessly endangering a civilian".

Billboards again

Posted on August 16, 2016 at 8:40pm 4 Comments

Whoever owns the billboard that's right next to the Ron Wise Auto Body place just put up a new billboard, higher than the old one  had been and also appears to be LED-lit. And it faces Ridley Park. I and my neighbors will see this one all the time; it's also higher than the trees. I see it now so when it's lit I'll probably be able to read it.

Good morning Linda,

Thank you so much for getting back to me so soon. I am the Store Manager at the Ridley Park Wells Fargo office. I want to be sure that I am aware of events and changes going on in the area. The majority of my team is from Ridley Park or grew up very close to here. I can tell that it is a very tight nit community.

Is it the Ridley Township Marina? Isn't that the former Ponderosa Bar at the south end of Swarthmore Ave in Township?  ...An educated guess...

The message threads seem to be missing me. My "Louisiana-Style Pulled Pork Bar-B-Que" will stand up to anyone else. My experience has been that in competitions like this, there are no losers, just different tastes! The tasters are the winners.
I was raised in Indiana, but my paternal grandparents were pioneers in Louisiana (circa 1910). They lived near Laranger, LA. My Grandfather bought a .22 rifle to shoot the alligators who liked to crawl up under the house. This pleased my Grandmother who gave birth to my Dad in 1913. Somewhere I have a picture of him on the family mule. Grandfather put his "fortune" into a huge crop of green beans which were picked, packed and loaded onto a boxcar headed for Chicago and the markets there. Refrigeration didn't exist yet, so the entire crop ( and those of the other farmers) were packed with ice , an expensive commodity in the South at the time. Long story/short..the train was sidetracked en route, the ice melted, the vegetables rotted into worthless glops.
They moved back to Indiana, but not the entire family. I retained many wonderful cousins, aunts and uncles in the South: mainly in McComb and Magnolia, Mississippi. I once traveled to Laranger and saw the family's home in town. The culinary heritage transcended the physical homes, farms and geography. My pulled pork rules in my neighborhood. Bring it on! :)

HI Linda, All of the paints have been removed, they have been keeping the other items to sell when or if they do open up the store again. Remember my aunt is 90 years old!!! She hasn't given up on the hardware store.
